Book Club

Are you looking for a book club based in Asia?  I just ran one as one of our activities in celebration of World Book Week.  This kind of activity is quite popular in UK based schools because it is easier if most publishers are your neighbors, right? But do not fret, we can now enjoy the same activity in Asia through this new online bookstore A Bookstore Asia

Normally, prices are in USD but you can request for the local currency to make it more inviting to parents.  What I like about it, just giving them 5 orders, you get all the books in the catalog we distributed for free. I actually received some of our free books.

Oh by the way, they will ship the books straight to your student's home address.

Offering free shipping in Asia, this could be the new Amazon of Asia.

Issuu

If you're looking or considering issuing library e-newsletter that looks sleek and impressive, try ISSUU.  It's so easy to publish your updates.  I taught my staff to make one in Thai version, and it's no sweat in creating it.  Try it yourself and let me know how you like...

Movie Maker

I came across with another blograrian and found this wonderful movie maker that even small children can use.  Presenting (drum roll)..XtraNormal.  You have to register to start your movie.  It was so easy and fun!  Here's a sample that I made for my blog...though Im so slang in this video but I enjoyed doing and of course watching it...try it yourself!

Start of the school year

This site can help you select the hot picks for your collection.

This post is quite late for most of the library but you can still do it for your incoming students within the year.

A good tool for school librarians for their "Literacy Program".  You can look for books that are age-a ppropriate for your readers that suits their taste of reading.  It also has the same function as "What Should I Read Next" website.  It's such a powerful website taht could help parents who wants to raise reading children.

REMARKABOOK: The Girl Who Played with Fire
On the eve of publisher Mikael Blomkvist's story about sex trafficking between Eastern Europe and Sweden, two investigating reporters are murdered. And even more shocking for Mikael Blomkvist: the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to Lisbeth Salander--the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who came to his aid years before.

Math library collection

I got the link of this wonderful blog from our Head of Math when I asked for their library wishlist.  Instead of sending back the form that I asked them to fill-out, she gave me this link for massive list of math books from toddler stage till young adults.  This is a very helpful tool for school librarians for their collection development.  The titles are hyperlinked to amazon for easier retrieval of bibliographic data...Building Children's Math Library

REMARKABOOK: The people of Lawndale just don't get Daria Morgendorffer. She's cool with that. See, Daria was born alienated, and now she's just trying to make it through high school with as little human contact as possible. Popularity, friends, activities, whatever. Daria lacks enthusiasm, but she makes up for it with sarcasm. Includes all five seasons, both home movies, interviews, and more.

Another reading website for teachers, librarians and parents of young children.  You can find titles age-appropriate for the intended readers and award winning titles that are well reviewed.  Reading teachers will find classroom activities and strategies for their students.  There are audio books too.  This is another worthy find...

REMARKABOOK: The disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden, gnaws at her octogenarian uncle, Henrik Vanger. He is determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder. He hires crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist, recently at the wrong end of a libel case, to get to the bottom of Harriet's disappearance. Lisbeth Salander, a twenty-four-year-old, pierced, tattooed genius hacker, possessed of the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age--and a terrifying capacity for ruthlessness--assists Blomkvist with the investigation. This unlikely team discovers a vein of nearly unfathomable iniquity running through the Vanger family, an astonishing corruption at the highest echelon of Swedish industrialism--and a surprising connection between themselves.--From publisher description.
